FAQ [CUSTOM LEATHER WORK]

  • What makes Mad Leather products different from mass-produced leather goods?

Mad Leather doesn’t do ordinary. With over 30 years at the bench, The Mad Tailor takes on the projects other makers won’t touch—the complicated, the unconventional, the “impossible.” Every piece is cut, stitched, and finished by hand from full-grain or vegetable-tanned leather, built to outlast trends and outshine anything stamped out by machines.

  • Can I customize my order?

Of course you can. That’s the point. Colors, stitching, hardware, embossing, logos, wild ideas—we’ve seen it all, and we’re not afraid of a challenge. If you can dream it, odds are The Mad Tailor can make it real.

  • How long does a custom leather order take?

Good things take time. A keychain might be ready in a week or two. A belt or jacket could take a month or more. Boots a bit longer than that. We don’t rush the process—we build it right, so you’ll be bragging about it decades from now.

  • What type of leather do you use?

Only the good stuff. Full-grain and vegetable-tanned hides from tanneries we trust. They age like fine whiskey—richer, better, and more personal the longer you carry them.

  • How do I care for my leather item?

Leather is tough, but it’s not invincible. Keep it dry when you can, feed it with a quality balm once in a while, and don’t leave it baking on your car dashboard. Treat it right and it’ll probably outlive you.

  • Do you offer personalization like initials, names, or logos?

Absolutely. Stamped, burned, engraved—your mark, your way. Whether it’s initials for a gift or a logo for your brand, we’ll make sure it looks bold and lasts forever.

  • Do you ship outside the U.S.?

Yes—we’ll send Mad Leather anywhere on the planet. Shipping costs and timing depend on where you hang your hat, but we’ll get it there.

  • What is your return or exchange policy?

Custom work is made just for you, which means no take-backs on personal projects. But if we screw up (rare, but we own it), we’ll fix it. Non-custom gear can be returned within 14 days.

  • Can you repair or restore old leather items?

Most likely. The Mad Tailor loves a good resurrection. Bring us your beat-up belt, your busted bag, your grandmother’s fur coat—we’ll tell you if it can be brought back to life or rebuilt into something new.

  • Do you take bulk or corporate orders?

Yep. We’ve kitted out teams, brands, and events with custom leather goods—everything from jackets to bolo ties. If you want your crew carrying something that doesn’t look like swag from a trade show, give us a call.

  • Where are you located?

Our workshop is based in Whitefish, Montana, but our reach goes far beyond state lines. We work with clients all over the United States, crafting custom leather pieces for people from coast to coast—and shipping them right to their door. Not local? No problem. We offer consultations via Zoom so you can collaborate with The Mad Tailor from anywhere.
